How to Forward Telegram Messages (With or Without Author)
Forwarding messages in Telegram lets you share content from one chat to another. Telegram offers options to forward with or without attribution.
Standard Forwarding
- Long-press (mobile) or right-click (desktop) on the message you want to forward.
- Select "Forward".
- Choose the destination chat.
- Optionally add a comment, then send.
The forwarded message shows a "Forwarded from [Name]" label.
Forwarding Without Author Attribution
- Select the message and tap Forward.
- Before sending, tap on the "Forwarded from..." header at the top.
- Select "Hide Sender Name".
- Send. The message appears without any forwarding label.
Forwarding Restrictions
Some channels and groups have forwarding restrictions enabled. When active:
- You cannot forward messages out of the chat.
- You cannot copy text or save media directly.
- This is controlled by the group/channel admin in chat settings.
Bulk Forwarding
Select multiple messages (long-press one, then tap others) and forward them all at once to any chat. They arrive in chronological order in the destination.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I forward messages from a channel where forwarding is disabled?
No. If the channel admin has restricted forwarding, you cannot forward, copy, or save content from that channel. This is an anti-piracy feature. Screenshots are still possible but not programmatically.
Does the original sender know I forwarded their message?
No. Telegram does not notify the original sender when you forward their message. However, the forwarded message does show "Forwarded from [Name]" unless you choose to hide the sender name.
