70% of Tokenized Stock Trading on BNB Chain Happens Outside US Market Hours
Tokenized equities have surged to nearly $3.3 billion in value, with the majority of trading volume on major blockchains occurring outside traditional US market hours, according to data from Blockworks cited by The Kobeissi Letter. More than 70% of tokenized stock trading on BNB Chain takes place outside the standard 9:30 am to 4 pm Eastern session, while Solana records 63% and Base sees nearly 60% of volume during off-hours. Jupiter, a leading Solana-based trading platform, reported a 50% month-over-month increase in tokenized asset trading volume, underscoring growing demand for round-the-clock equity access.
The pattern suggests investors are turning to tokenized stocks specifically to trade when Wall Street is closed, rather than simply mirroring activity during regular hours. Tokenized stock values have risen 15% over the past 30 days, with issuers including Ondo Global Markets, xStocks, and bStocks driving much of the growth across multiple blockchain networks. This shift highlights 24/7 liquidity as a core value proposition of putting equities onchain, particularly for global investors underserved by traditional market schedules.
Regulatory momentum is accelerating alongside market growth. Last month, the SEC introduced an "innovation exemption" allowing qualifying venues to trade tokenized US-listed stocks on public blockchains, with Commissioner Mark Uyeda requiring participants to publish transaction data in US dollars, including trade prices, sizes, timestamps, daily volumes, and liquidity pool addresses. Unlike existing products from xStocks and Ondo Global Markets, which are generally unavailable to US investors, the new exemption opens the door for domestic tokenized equity trading, provided venues preserve shareholder rights and meet disclosure requirements.
