AI Agents Could Make Crypto Outperform AI Stocks, Jordi Visser Says

Former Morgan Stanley managing director and Weiss Multi-Strategy Advisers chief investment officer Jordi Visser believes cryptocurrency could produce better returns than AI stocks as artificial intelligence drives demand for digital payments and tokenized assets. Now founder of Visser Labs and head of 22V’s AI Macro Nexus Research, Visser told Cointelegraph’s Trade Secrets that gains in AI-related equities are becoming increasingly difficult to sustain.

Visser has expanded his personal crypto exposure beyond Bitcoin, Ether and Solana into a broader basket of tokens. His investment thesis centers on autonomous AI agents that can execute trades and other financial transactions for users. He compares the emerging adoption of AI agents with the smartphone and App Store, arguing that agents could make crypto infrastructure more accessible and create a new wave of on-chain activity.

That shift could broaden the AI trade beyond companies supplying computing power, Visser said. As agents settle payments, transfer value and interact with tokenized assets, he expects demand for crypto rails to rise. “Without AI, I don’t think crypto would be going through this bull market,” he said, adding that the market’s potential to benefit from agent-driven payments remains underappreciated.

The strategy is not without risk. Visser began reducing his position in memory-chip maker Micron in mid-May after concluding that hedge funds and retail investors had crowded into the AI trade. By that point, Bitcoin was down 10.85% for the year and Ether was down 25.86%, as capital focused on AI-related equities. Visser acknowledged that a severe AI downturn could drag on broader equity markets and force crypto to retest recent lows, but he remains convinced that AI agents could ultimately support a larger crypto bull market.
