AI-Powered Crypto Meme Games Could Flood Market, Says Illuvium Co-Founder
Illuvium co-founder Kieran Warwick has warned that advances in AI development tools could unleash a wave of short-lived, speculative crypto games within the next year, potentially launching as many as 100,000 titles designed to survive only a few days. Speaking to Cointelegraph, Warwick noted that AI tools have slashed the time and cost of building crypto games like Wolf Game and Fishing Frenzy from months to just days and roughly $1,000. He compared the coming boom to the serial memecoin deployers that emerged on platforms like Pump.fun in 2024, predicting a parallel wave of serial game deployers targeting the same speculative crowd. "Plenty will be ponzis. Plenty will get exploited. Plenty will insta die," Warwick said, adding that there will be "ridiculous gains, and people will get absolutely f***ing rinsed."
The prediction draws a direct parallel to the memecoin cycle of 2024, when launchpads like Pump.fun made token creation trivially easy and pushed the sector's combined market capitalization to $150.6 billion by December. That figure subsequently fell nearly 69% to $47.2 billion by November 2025, according to CoinGecko, leaving many late entrants holding worthless bags. Warwick argued that crypto meme games will follow the same arc, attracting degens who would otherwise gamble on Pump.fun memecoins. "You're giving them a new venue and a new shiny wrapper for them to be able to go and gamble," he said. Asked whether the trend would benefit the broader crypto gaming ecosystem, Warwick conceded: "Probably not."
Despite his warnings, Warwick suggested the wave could produce some positive outcomes, including making niche, experimental games economically viable and reviving mainstream attention on crypto gaming. He positioned Illuvium's long-gestating flagship title, Overworld, as a counterpoint: the game has been in development for over six years, with a revamped full release targeted for the first quarter of 2027. Warwick emphasized that sustainable crypto gaming still depends on quality titles with genuine ownership mechanics, not disposable speculative products. The full picture will also depend on how major industry players like Animoca Brands respond as the meme game cycle accelerates through 2026.
