Bitcoin ETFs Break 9-Day Inflow Streak as BTC Drops Below $78K
US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $201.8 million in net outflows on Friday, snapping a nine-consecutive-session inflow streak that had pushed more than $3 billion into the products. The reversal came as Bitcoin's price slipped below $78,000, dragging total spot Bitcoin ETF net assets down to $97.6 billion from a peak above $100 billion the previous day. Despite the Friday dip, August flows remained positive at $3.3 billion with one US trading session remaining in the month, according to SoSoValue data.
ARK 21Shares' Bitcoin ETF (ARKB) led the day's withdrawals with $114.9 million in net outflows, followed by the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB) at $49.7 million and BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), the largest US spot Bitcoin ETF by assets, which shed $33.4 million, per Farside Investors data. Morgan Stanley's Bitcoin Trust (MSBT) was the sole fund to log inflows, adding $9.3 million. The outflows marked a sharp shift in sentiment after nearly two weeks of sustained institutional buying.
While Bitcoin funds reversed course, Ether and XRP ETFs continued attracting capital, posting $102.2 million and $26.2 million in net inflows respectively. Solana ETFs maintained their positive momentum as well, with Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas noting the category has accumulated $1.7 billion in cumulative flows without a sustained stretch of outflows. Bitwise's Solana ETF also became the first in its category to cross the $1 billion asset milestone — a performance Balchunas called "impressive" given what he described as a "nightmare downturn" in the first half of the year. The divergence across crypto ETF categories highlights how institutional appetite is rotating rather than retreating from the broader digital asset space.
