Bitcoin ETFs See $201.8M Outflows as BTC Drops Below $78K, Ending 9-Day Inflow Streak

US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $201.8 million in net outflows on Friday, snapping a nine-day inflow streak that had brought in more than $3 billion, according to SoSoValue data. The reversal coincided with Bitcoin falling below the $78,000 mark, pushing total fund assets back to $97.6 billion after briefly topping $100 billion on Thursday. August flows remained positive at $3.3 billion with one US trading session left in the month.

ARK 21Shares' Bitcoin ETF (ARKB) led the withdrawals with $114.9 million in net outflows, followed by Bitwise's Bitcoin ETF (BITB) with $49.7 million, according to Farside Investors data. BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), the largest US spot Bitcoin ETF by assets, recorded $33.4 million in outflows. Morgan Stanley's Bitcoin Trust (MSBT) was the sole fund to post inflows Friday, adding $9.3 million.

The Bitcoin ETF reversal stood in contrast to continued momentum in other crypto ETF categories. Ether and XRP ETFs added $102.2 million and $26.2 million respectively, with both categories last recording net outflows on Aug. 11 and Aug. 5. Solana ETFs have also maintained positive flows, with Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas noting the category had attracted $1.7 billion in cumulative flows without a sustained stretch of outflows.

Bitwise's Solana ETF became the first fund in the category to cross the $1 billion asset milestone, a performance Balchunas described as "impressive" given what he called a "nightmare downturn" in the first half of the year. The divergence across crypto ETFs suggests investors are rotating within the digital asset space rather than exiting the broader market, even as Bitcoin's price action prompted the first significant withdrawal in nearly two weeks.
