Bitcoin Faces Key Demand Test at $83K-$86K as Long-Term Holder Supply Looms
Crypto analytics platform Glassnode has identified a critical resistance zone between $81,000 and $86,000 that could determine Bitcoin's next major directional move. In its latest edition of The Week On-Chain newsletter, Glassnode flagged multiple pools of long-term holder (LTH) supply sitting just overhead, representing coins that have remained unmoved through the entire recent drawdown. With BTC currently hovering near $80,000, analysts say the real test of buyer demand will come as price approaches $83,000, where LTHs who have been holding at a loss may be tempted to sell at breakeven.
The resistance band is reinforced by several converging market structures. New ask liquidity has appeared on exchange order books between $81,000 and $86,000, though Glassnode notes these orders may be strategic placeholders rather than genuine sell intent. Below these asks sits a self-custody cost-basis shelf at approximately $80,800, dealer gamma exposure flipping negative at $82,300, and a surviving liquidation shelf extending to $86,000. Multiple trend lines have also converged around current spot price, including Bitcoin's 50-week and 100-week exponential moving averages at $77,353 and $78,485, as well as its 365-day volume-weighted average price near $82,600, creating a narrow corridor that amplifies the significance of any breakout or breakdown.
Glassnode analysts emphasized that every overhead structure they track now clusters within this $81,000-$86,000 band, framing it as the zone where recovery demand meets its decisive test. Bitcoin has struggled to flip the $80,000 level into support in recent sessions, and the convergence of long-term holder supply, exchange order book liquidity, and technical trend lines suggests that a sustained move above $86,000 would require a substantial commitment of new buying pressure. The coming weeks will reveal whether bullish momentum can absorb the overhead supply or whether BTC consolidates within its current range as market participants await clearer directional signals.
