Bitcoin Holds $82,500 Support as US CPI Data Looms: What Traders Are Watching

Bitcoin kicked off the third week of October by defending a key weekly support level near $82,500, setting the stage for inflation-driven volatility as traders brace for fresh US economic data. According to CoinTelegraph, the September Consumer Price Index (CPI) print on Wednesday and the Producer Price Index (PPI) release on Thursday represent the week's primary catalysts for risk assets, with markets forecasting CPI to rise to 3.7% year-on-year from August's 3.4% reading. Any surprise to the downside could ease pressure on real yields and trigger a rally across crypto, stocks, and gold by reducing the odds of further Federal Reserve tightening.

The macroeconomic backdrop adds urgency to this week's data. CME FedWatch data shows markets pricing just an 18.8% chance of a rate hike at the Fed's October 28 meeting, but December odds stand at 70.6% for a 25-basis-point increase to the 4.00-4.25% range. US 10-year bond yields have retreated from 24-year highs to 5.24%, while 30-year yields sit at 5.60%. Adding to the picture, WTI crude oil briefly dipped below $90 per barrel on Monday following a US announcement to purchase Russian diesel, before recovering higher. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh is also scheduled to appear alongside IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva at an event in Bangkok on Friday.

Technically, Bitcoin's weekly close above $82,500 was significant, preventing a slide back into its prior 2026 macro range between $60,000 and $80,000. Tim Waterer, chief market analyst at KCM Trade, told Reuters that a cooler-than-expected inflation print would serve as the clearest near-term catalyst for risk assets, noting it would reduce tightening expectations and relieve pressure on real yields. With CPI, PPI, and a Warsh appearance all on the calendar, traders face a data-heavy week that could define Bitcoin's near-term trajectory ahead of the Fed's late-October policy decision.
