Bitcoin Holds $86K as Oil Drops Below $90 After Trump UN Speech

Bitcoin (BTC) consolidated near $86,000 on Tuesday, recovering from a brief dip below key levels as crude oil prices fell to their lowest point in nearly three weeks. The flagship cryptocurrency had hit fresh 33-week highs of $87,350 on Monday — its strongest level since January 29 — before volatility cooled according to TradingView data. Traders are now watching whether $86,000 will establish itself as a durable support floor.

The broader market backdrop shifted as US President Donald Trump addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York, pledging to pursue a deal to end the US-Iran conflict. "I believe we'll make a deal right after the election because it doesn't make sense for them not to," Trump told world leaders, referencing the November midterm elections. WTI crude oil initially dropped as low as $89.16 per barrel — its lowest mark since September 4 — before rebounding toward $92, aided by reports that Saudi Arabia had reopened the East-West Pipeline, a critical supply route. According to anonymous sources cited by Reuters, it will take six to eight weeks for flows to reach full capacity.

Adding a bullish technical signal, onchain analytics platform Glassnode noted that Bitcoin's market value to realized value (MVRV) ratio has crossed above its 365-day moving average, a pattern previously observed at the start of the 2019 and 2023 bull markets. The MVRV ratio, which compares BTC's market capitalization to the cumulative price at which coins last moved onchain, has climbed from 1.19 in August to 1.62 — suggesting that the current accumulation phase may be transitioning into a new upward cycle. US equities tracked sideways throughout the session as traders awaited further catalysts from the geopolitical and energy markets.
