Chainalysis Targeted in Cybersecurity Incident; Customer Data Exposed
Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis has disclosed a cybersecurity incident that exposed some non-sensitive customer data. The company said its initial investigation found no evidence of unauthorized access to investigation content, authentication credentials, or session tokens.
Chainalysis engaged third-party cybersecurity experts to support an independent review of its security and strengthen its defenses. The company is also using large language models to assist with the review. Chainalysis said the incident was unrelated to the recent theft of cryptocurrency from Binance.
The disclosure came as Chainalysis detailed a network of Russian intermediaries that allegedly helped North Korean IT workers cash out millions of dollars in cryptocurrency. According to Chainalysis, North Korea-linked hacks accounted for nearly 89% of reported cryptocurrency theft losses this year, compared with 15% in 2021.
