Crypto Market Cap Reclaims $3T as Bitcoin Tops $86K Amid Altcoin Rally
The cryptocurrency market cap briefly surged back above $3 trillion on Tuesday as Bitcoin and leading altcoins extended a broad-based rally, with derivatives data pointing to heightened speculative activity across the sector. Bitcoin (BTC) traded around $86,000, climbing roughly 4.5% over 24 hours, according to CoinGecko. Ether (ETH) added 2.3% to $2,745, while XRP jumped 5.7% to $1.53 and Solana (SOL) gained 3.6% to $117. BNB rose 1.6%, and Dogecoin (DOGE) emerged as a standout among large caps, rallying approximately 11%. At the time of writing, total crypto market capitalization stood just below the $3 trillion mark, up about 4.3% over the previous day.
Rising leverage has accompanied the rally. According to Bloomberg, open interest in perpetual futures across the crypto complex climbed to nearly $160 billion, its highest level since late October 2025. More than $920 million in short positions were liquidated on Monday as prices surged, a signal that amplified leverage could drive sharper moves in either direction. Institutional demand also accelerated, with US spot Bitcoin ETFs drawing nearly $1 billion in inflows on Monday, the largest single-day haul since October 2025.
Outside the top-tier assets, AKE, the native token of AI-focused gaming platform Akedo, ranked as one of the week's biggest movers. Now the 208th-largest cryptocurrency out of 8,161 active tokens listed on CoinMarketCap, AKE surged roughly 170% over seven days, lifting its market cap to approximately $1.2 billion. The token hit an all-time high of $0.1467 on Sunday before retracing more than 60%, with $108.9 million worth of AKE changing hands in the past 24 hours. Separately, analyst James Check suggested that Bitcoin's cycle bottom may already be in at $58,000, reinforcing bullish sentiment as BTC reclaimed the $86,000 level.
