Crypto News: AI Agents Staking ETH, Strategy Dividends, Coinbase Exposure

CFTC Chair Michael Selig said autonomous AI agents could eventually use cryptocurrency to make real-world purchases, stake Ether and even launch memecoins. Speaking at the CFTC’s inaugural Frontier Forum in Washington, D.C., Selig described an AI-powered refrigerator buying groceries with Ether staking rewards as no longer science fiction. His comments highlighted the regulatory challenges surrounding financial agents that can hold assets and execute trades without continuous human oversight.

Adoption of AI investment tools is already broadening that regulatory debate. An eToro survey released in September found that 79% of US millennial investors and 77% of Gen Z investors had used, or were open to using, AI to select or adjust their investments. As crypto regulation evolves, authorities may need to address how automated systems handle ownership, transactions and consumer protection.

Strategy shareholders approved daily dividend payments for four preferred securities, with 99.3% of votes cast in favor. The amendment covers STRF, STRC, STRK and STRD, replacing existing semimonthly or quarterly schedules with business-day distributions. Annual rates will remain unchanged at 8% to 12%, with dividends continuing to accrue over weekends and holidays. STRC is expected to begin daily payments on Nov. 2, while the other three securities are scheduled to follow on Jan. 4, 2027.

Coinbase also disclosed that some customer contact information was exposed through a third-party analytics provider. The incident adds a cybersecurity concern to today’s crypto developments as exchanges and other digital-asset platforms increasingly rely on outside service providers. Together, the announcements underline a shift toward automated finance while increasing pressure on crypto companies to safeguard customer data.
