Crypto News: Musk’s AI Warning, China Blockchain Target, Ethereum Delay
Elon Musk warned that more than 200 specialist AI cloud providers could fail or consolidate as financing tightens, potentially affecting Bitcoin miners that have pivoted into AI infrastructure. Speaking on X, Musk said lenders have largely stopped financing companies without substantial revenue beyond AI data centers. SpaceX secured $40 billion in debt financing for GPUs, aided by its investment-grade credit profile and revenue from Starlink and its rocket business. “That means the 200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation,” Musk said. His comments followed Gartner’s forecast that more than 80% of neocloud providers will cease operating independently by 2030. Companies such as IREN and Core Scientific have expanded into AI hosting, with the latter serving neocloud customers including CoreWeave.
China has set a 2030 deadline for largely completing a national blockchain network under its 15th Five-Year Plan for National Informatization. The plan, issued by the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, calls for expanded blockchain use in trade and finance in the Yangtze River Delta, as well as large-scale deployments in manufacturing and agriculture in the Chengdu–Chongqing region. The target builds on a national development plan announced in March and an Oct. 9 policy issued jointly by China’s central leadership and the State Council.
Ethereum developers also delayed the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi testnet after researchers identified potential smart contract security risks. The postponement gives developers additional time to assess and address the findings before the upgrade progresses toward the main network. Together, the developments highlight mounting pressure on AI infrastructure providers, accelerating blockchain adoption in China and continued security scrutiny within Ethereum’s development cycle.
