Fairshake PAC to Spend $30M Against Sherrod Brown in Ohio Senate Race

Fairshake, the political action committee backed by cryptocurrency heavyweights Coinbase and Ripple Labs, is allocating $30 million to oppose Democrat Sherrod Brown's bid to reclaim his Ohio Senate seat. PAC spokesperson Geoff Vetter confirmed the figure to Cointelegraph, aligning with earlier reporting by The New York Times. Vetter signaled that additional expenditures would be announced before the Nov. 3 midterm elections.

The move marks a repeat engagement in Ohio, where Fairshake spent roughly $41 million supporting Republican Bernie Moreno and opposing Brown during the 2024 cycle. Combined with spending from other aligned groups, total outlays in that race topped $300 million, ultimately contributing to Brown's loss to Moreno by approximately four percentage points. Brown, formerly chair of the Senate Banking Committee during the previous Democratic majority, has remained a prominent voice on financial regulation.

Fairshake enters the 2026 midterms with roughly $122 million in reserves, according to Vetter's August disclosures. The PAC is among several crypto-aligned organizations aiming to shape voter sentiment in races that will determine control of both the House and Senate. As of Monday, event contracts on prediction market platform Kalshi leaned toward Democrats retaking the majority in both chambers.

Cointelegraph reached out to Brown's campaign for comment but did not receive an immediate response. Vetter declined to detail the PAC's broader midterm strategy. The spending underscores the growing political clout of the digital asset sector as it seeks favorable legislative outcomes in Washington.
