Hyperscale Data Halts Michigan Bitcoin Mining, Pivots to AI Data Center

Hyperscale Data has shut down all Bitcoin mining operations at its Michigan facility, redirecting capital toward an artificial intelligence data center buildout. The company confirmed Wednesday that all miners at the site were powered off following an inspection by an unidentified California-based neocloud provider that has signed on as the facility's anchor AI customer. Hyperscale said it intends to sell the associated mining equipment as part of the transition.

The AI customer has contracted for 20 megawatts of computing capacity under a 10-year master services agreement with two optional five-year extensions, a deal Hyperscale estimates could generate more than $1.2 billion over the maximum 20-year term. An additional 32 MW option could push potential revenue above $3 billion, while the site is designed to support up to 340 MW. Hyperscale cautioned that the projections remain preliminary and depend on the customer exercising its options and securing financing and regulatory approvals.

The pivot has taken a steep toll on the company's Bitcoin treasury. On July 30, Hyperscale held roughly 1,006 BTC; by this week, holdings had dropped to 215 BTC, a 79% decline, according to BitcoinTreasuries.NET. That places Hyperscale 84th among publicly tracked companies, with its remaining stash worth about $16.7 million. During the week ending Aug. 30 alone, the company sold approximately 65 BTC for $5.1 million to fund the Michigan development.

Investor sentiment has soured alongside the drawdown. Hyperscale Data shares closed at $0.1984 on Wednesday, down roughly 17%, after hitting an intraday low of $0.1932, a split-adjusted record low for the NYSE American-listed stock. The decline followed a one-for-five reverse stock split that took effect on Aug. 25, as the company leans further into its identity as an AI infrastructure provider rather than a Bitcoin miner.
