Nvidia Eyes $10B Investment in Anthropic's Potential $2T IPO

Nvidia is in talks to invest up to $10 billion in Anthropic ahead of what could become the largest initial public offering in history, Reuters reported Saturday, citing people familiar with the confidential negotiations. The AI startup is seeking to raise as much as $100 billion in the offering, a figure that would value the company at approximately $2 trillion. Both Anthropic and Nvidia declined to comment or had not responded to requests for comment at the time of publication.

The proposed investment would position Nvidia as an early strategic backer of the IPO while deepening ties between the chipmaker and one of its key AI customers. The deal comes amid Nvidia's broader push into AI software and infrastructure: on August 11, Cointelegraph reported that Nvidia agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12.9 billion, gaining access to a platform serving more than 18 million developers and hosting over three million models.

Anthropic has been scaling its compute footprint aggressively. Bitcoin miner Riot Platforms struck a 20-year deal in August to supply 191 megawatts of capacity from its Rockdale, Texas campus to Anthropic, a contract valued at roughly $9 billion, according to Bloomberg. If finalized, the Nvidia investment and IPO would mark one of the most consequential capital events in the AI sector, underscoring the staggering valuations being placed on frontier model developers.
