Poland Crypto Bill Veto Holds as CLARITY Act Gains Senate Momentum

Polish lawmakers fell 25 votes short on Friday of overriding President Karol Nawrocki's veto on crypto legislation designed to tighten oversight of the country's digital asset market. The Sejm voted 241-198, with three abstentions, failing to reach the three-fifths majority needed to reverse the veto. The defeat comes as prosecutors expand their investigation into collapsed exchange Zondacrypto, whose Estonian operator BB Trade Estonia was declared bankrupt in August. Prime Minister Donald Tusk pointed to witness testimony alleging payments and attempts to influence politicians connected to Poland's previous government, with investigators probing suspected fraud and money laundering.

In Washington, the National Sheriffs' Association dropped its opposition to the CLARITY Act, shifting its position to "neutral" in a letter to Senate leaders ahead of a critical vote later this month. The move removes one of the most prominent law-enforcement objections to the crypto market structure bill, which the House passed in July 2025. The group had previously warned that provisions exempting certain crypto mixers from registration could hinder transaction tracing and stolen-fund recovery. Senate Majority Leader John Thune has filed for a cloture vote on September 15, while the SEC and CFTC have signaled willingness to advance parts of the regulatory framework even if Congress stalls.

Separately, the International Monetary Fund confirmed that El Salvador used no public funds for its post-review Bitcoin accumulation and has since transferred majority control of the Chivo wallet to a private operator. The disclosure addresses longstanding IMF concerns about fiscal transparency tied to the country's Bitcoin adoption policy. Meanwhile, broader markets were mixed, with BNB climbing 6.26% to $766.77 and Monero jumping 6.22% to $552.98, while Bitcoin held near $79,838 and Solana traded at $103.18.
