Revolut Wins Gibraltar Crypto License to Fuel Global Expansion

Revolut, the UK-based fintech giant serving more than 80 million retail customers worldwide, has secured a Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) Provider license from the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC) to expand its cryptocurrency services into new international markets. The license was granted to Revolut Global Digital Assets Limited, a newly formed subsidiary, the company announced on Monday. The authorization enables Revolut to extend digital asset offerings beyond its existing footprint in the UK and the European Economic Area, though specific launch countries and timelines have yet to be disclosed.

The move comes amid rapid expansion of Revolut's digital asset business, which already counts approximately 16 million cryptocurrency users globally. In the UK, crypto services are delivered through Revolut Ltd, while operations across the European Economic Area fall under Revolut Digital Assets Europe Ltd and are governed by the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). The Gibraltar license adds a third regulatory jurisdiction to Revolut's crypto portfolio and positions the neobank to serve markets where it does not yet have a local licensing arrangement.

The Gibraltar approval follows a series of recent regulatory wins for Revolut. In July, the company received in-principle approval to offer crypto services in Dubai, and in September, it secured preliminary conditional approval from US regulators to establish a national bank that would provide digital asset custody and crypto-related payment services. Together, the three authorizations signal an aggressive push by Revolut to build a globally compliant crypto infrastructure spanning Europe, the Middle East, and North America.
