Robinhood Crypto Volume Jumps 61% in August but Trails 2025 by 38%

Robinhood's crypto trading volume climbed 61% month-over-month to $17.5 billion in August 2026, yet the figure remained 38% below the year-earlier level, according to the brokerage's latest monthly operating report. The rebound was driven largely by Bitstamp, the institutional crypto exchange Robinhood acquired in June 2025, which contributed $10.1 billion of the August total. The remaining $7.4 billion came from the Robinhood app, where retail-facing volumes rose 72% from July but still dropped 46% compared to August 2025.

Bitstamp was the dominant contributor to Robinhood's crypto segment throughout the second quarter, accounting for $22 billion of the company's $40 billion total crypto volume compared to $18 billion from the Robinhood app. The exchange's August volume rose 53% month-on-month, though it was down 30% year-on-year. Robinhood noted that trading activity on its Robinhood Chain was not reflected in the reported figures.

Despite softer crypto revenue — transaction-based income fell 38% to $100 million in Q2 from roughly $160 million a year earlier — Robinhood posted record quarterly revenue and earnings, buoyed by growth in event contracts, options, and equities. Analysts at Bernstein have projected that the Robinhood Chain could generate $160 million in annual fees by 2028, signaling a potentially larger role for on-chain infrastructure in the company's future crypto business.
