Solana Accelerate Shanghai Postponed After Registrations Quadruple Overnight
Solana Foundation President Lily Liu announced Friday that the Solana Accelerate Shanghai event was postponed after pre-registration figures surged past the attendance cap registered with local authorities. In an X post, Liu explained that registrations quadrupled overnight following publicity for the event, prompting organizers to delay proceedings in order to "comply with local requirements."
The postponement came amid unconfirmed reports from X users that the event had been "abruptly suspended," with law enforcement officers reportedly stationed at the venue. This marks the second time in roughly a year that a Solana gathering in China has been disrupted by capacity and safety concerns. In October 2025, a Solana event in Shenzhen was also cut short due to venue capacity and public-safety concerns, according to the network's Chinese-language community account on X.
Shanghai was scheduled to open Solana's four-city Accelerate China tour, with subsequent stops planned in Hangzhou on Sunday, Shenzhen on Tuesday, and Beijing on Thursday, per the event website. The postponement followed Solana executives' promotion of a new Shanghai office earlier in the week, signaling an expansion of the network's presence in the region despite ongoing regulatory headwinds.
China continues to prohibit a wide range of crypto-related services, including token fundraising, trading, and mining. In February 2026, the People's Bank of China and seven other agencies reinforced those restrictions with a new notice that added bans on unauthorized issuance of yuan-pegged stablecoins, underscoring the tight regulatory environment Solana and other blockchain projects face when operating in the country.
