Strategy Bitcoin Treasury Returns to Profit as BTC Tops $77K

Bitcoin surged past $77,000 on Friday, pushing Strategy's corporate Bitcoin treasury above its cost basis for the first time this year. The business intelligence company, formerly known as MicroStrategy, holds 840,447 BTC with an average acquisition cost of $75,385, according to BitcoinTreasuries data. With BTC/USD hitting new local highs above $77,400 ahead of the final Wall Street open, Strategy's holdings swung to a year-to-date gain of roughly $450 million after gaining around 20% in just 48 hours.

The breakeven milestone comes shortly after Strategy conducted its fourth Bitcoin sale of 2026. Between Aug. 3 and Aug. 9, the company sold 1,690 BTC to repurchase 1.15 million shares of its STRC preferred stock for $108.6 million, a move that had fueled concerns about the long-term viability of its Bitcoin investment thesis. Independent crypto analyst William Clemente pushed back on those concerns on X, noting that CEO Phong Le's willingness to sell BTC for STRC buybacks, combined with the subsequent price rally, has left Strategy "even more over-collateralized by their BTC holdings." In a Fox News interview earlier in August, Le stated that Strategy would resume purchasing Bitcoin before the end of the year.

Adding to the bullish setup, onchain analytics platform Glassnode identified a dense support cluster forming between $58,000 and $67,000. Approximately 2.23 million BTC, equal to around 11% of the total circulating supply, was accumulated in that range over the past 11 weeks, making it the most concentrated cost-basis band below spot and a key zone for any potential retest.
