Strategy MicroStrategy Saylor Teases New Bitcoin Buys After $176M STRC Buybacks

Strategy chair Michael Saylor hinted at additional Bitcoin acquisitions over the weekend, posting "There's always room for more orange" on X on Sunday, a signal long followed by investors tracking the company's weekly BTC purchases. Any formal disclosure, however, will likely be delayed until Tuesday due to the Columbus Day federal holiday on Monday, meaning the official 8-K filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission will come later than usual.

Strategy closed September with a significant pivot toward preferred-stock repurchases, spending $176.3 million to buy back roughly 1.77 million shares of its STRC preferred stock during the week of Sept. 28 to Oct. 4. Over the same period, the firm added only 334 BTC for $28.7 million, bringing total Bitcoin reserves to 848,000 BTC. The buyback figure came in more than six times the company's typical weekly Bitcoin acquisition budget.

Independent analyst Shanaka Anslem Perera suggested the shift reflects treasury positioning rather than a retreat from BTC accumulation. According to Perera's monthly newsletter, Strategy raised $5.41 billion through new common-share sales in Q3, ending the quarter with 1,666 more BTC than it held at the end of June. SEC filings indicate roughly 9.5% of the raise was allocated directly to Bitcoin purchases, with the remainder directed toward cash reserves, dividends, and preferred-share buybacks. Perera noted that retained cash and a stronger balance sheet could enable larger BTC acquisitions in future quarters, leaving investors watching closely for Saylor's next signal.
