Sui Tunnels Hit 40.6M TPS in Live AI Agent Stress Test

Sui's programmable offchain tunnels processed more than 40 million transactions per second during a live stress test conducted Wednesday at Sui Basecamp in Singapore, reaching a peak of 40,614,180 TPS. The figure represents a substantial jump from roughly 6.1 million TPS recorded during a similar demonstration in July, underscoring the blockchain's progress in scaling throughput for high-frequency workloads.

The test simulated transaction activity between AI agents, with more than 10,000 tunnels opened on Sui mainnet spanning payments, games, and chat applications. Tunnels are programmable offchain channels that batch transactions before settling to the Sui blockchain when closed, allowing high-volume activity to occur without burdening the main network with every individual transaction.

"Sui is built for the moment when millions of AI agents are transacting every day," said Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder and chief product officer at Mysten Labs, the original contributor to Sui. He added: "No market in the world needs 6 million transactions per second, let alone 40 million: people just don't move that fast. Agents do." The demonstration was independently audited by CertiK, which is reviewing the test data and expected to publish a report in the coming days.

The result positions Sui as a contender in the race to provide infrastructure for autonomous AI agent economies, where machine-to-machine transactions are expected to far outpace human-driven activity. As agentic AI systems proliferate, blockchain networks capable of handling tens of millions of TPS offchain while still settling onchain could become foundational rails for the emerging agent economy.
