UK Opens Crypto Authorization Window as Crypto.com AI Agent Stays in Stealth

The United Kingdom's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has opened its crypto authorization application period, marking a key milestone ahead of the country's full regulatory regime taking effect on October 25, 2027. Crypto businesses seeking approval must apply by the end of February 2027, with the FCA aiming to finalize decisions before the framework goes live. The rules, finalized in June, expand oversight beyond anti-money laundering and financial promotion requirements to cover stablecoin issuance, crypto trading platforms, and market abuse. "MLR registration will not carry over, and firms should be realistic about the standards they will need to meet," warned Emma Banymandhub, CEO of The Payments Association.

Meanwhile, Crypto.com's ambitious personal AI agent platform remains in "stealth mode" nearly eight months after its high-profile Super Bowl debut. The company promoted Ai.com, a Crypto.com business line, with a $15 million ad during the fourth quarter of the February Super Bowl, pitching an AI capable of trading stocks and even updating online dating profiles. The website crashed within minutes as users rushed to reserve handles, but it still displays a message indicating AI agent generation is queued due to demand. A Crypto.com spokesperson confirmed the platform is still under active development.

In other news, Bitget CEO expressed pessimism about recovering the $388 million stolen in last week's hack, underscoring ongoing security challenges across centralized exchanges. Separately, crypto markets showed modest gains, with Bitcoin trading around $84,048, Solana at $119.23, and BNB up 2.26% to $769.57 as traders weighed regulatory progress and platform updates across the industry.
