VanEck Launches Multi-Asset ETF with 2% Bitcoin Allocation
US asset manager VanEck has launched the actively managed VanEck Wealth Builder ETF (NYSE: WBMO), combining global equities, bonds, gold and other real assets with targeted exposure to Bitcoin. The fund seeks to maintain a 2% Bitcoin allocation within a permitted range of 1% to 5%.
WBMO invests in VanEck and third-party exchange-traded funds, with VanEck managing and rebalancing portfolio allocations. Bitcoin exposure is obtained through a spot Bitcoin exchange-traded product rather than direct ownership of the cryptocurrency. The strategy is based on VanEck’s existing Wealth Builder model portfolios, which were previously available to financial advisers through third-party wealth-management platforms.
“The traditional 60/40 portfolio was built for a different investment landscape,” said David Schassler, VanEck’s head of multi-asset solutions. He said combining stocks and bonds with real assets could help investors navigate a broader range of economic conditions while adding a limited allocation to Bitcoin.
The launch follows VanEck’s March partnership with retirement platform Basic Capital, which made a selection of the asset manager’s digital-asset ETFs available through US employer-sponsored 401(k) plans. VanEck reported managing approximately $244.1 billion in assets as of Sept. 30.
